KRALENDIJK – Prime Minister Rob Jetten spoke openly on Tuesday during a press moment at his working visit to Bonaire about his unexpected hospitalisation earlier that morning. The prime minister suffered an allergic reaction after being stung by what is believed to have been a jellyfish while swimming.

When asked how he was doing, Jetten responded visibly relieved: "Yes, I’m fine. I was truly taken care of superbly this morning. Luckily this is something they see more often here, so they knew exactly what to do."

According to the prime minister, he felt helpless for several hours while hooked up to a drip. "It’s just really uncomfortable because for a couple of hours you genuinely can’t do anything and you’re on a drip. And then at some point you suddenly feel much better all at once. And from there things improve very quickly," he said.

Programma resumed

Despite the scare, Jetten resumed his programme on Bonaire later in the day, where topics including climate change, financial security and infrastructure were discussed in meetings with the island’s government.
