ORANJESTAD – A 23-year-old Dutch woman was killed Sunday afternoon in an accident involving a UTV on the road near Grapefield in San Nicolas. According to police, she is the tenth traffic fatality on Aruba this year.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:58 p.m. According to initial police findings, the UTV rolled over for reasons still unknown. The woman was driving the vehicle and showed no signs of life following the crash.
Paramedics attempted to assist her but were unable to save her life. A forensic physician pronounced her dead at the scene. Forensic police, traffic specialists, and victim support services also responded to the accident site.
Police have not yet released any information regarding the exact cause of the accident.
The accident comes at a time when the UTV sector on Aruba has long been under pressure amid ongoing discussions about safety, licensing, and oversight.
