PHILIPSBURG – During a large-scale search of the prison in Point Blanche on Sint Maarten, drugs, blunt weapons and bladed weapons were found. Marines assisted with the operation on Wednesday at the request of local authorities.
The operation was aimed at locating contraband within the prison. The marine detachment worked in conjunction with the Sint Maarten Police Force.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the military personnel helped ensure the search proceeded safely and in an orderly manner. They also safeguarded the security of prison staff and inmates.
The Ministry of Defence has not disclosed what types of drugs and weapons were involved, how much contraband was seized, or whether any arrests or disciplinary measures have been taken following the discoveries.
