KRALENDIJK – TCB, FuHiKuBo and hiking group Chantiwawa are joining forces to make hiking on Bonaire more accessible. Hiking trails will be better signposted and made available digitally, for both residents and visitors.

Chantiwawa, a group of nature enthusiasts and volunteers under FuHiKuBo, has extensive experience in mapping, clearing, marking and maintaining hiking trails. FuHiKuBo contributes historical and cultural knowledge. TCB supports the digitisation and promotion.

What will change concretely?

A key element is digital accessibility and signposting. On selected routes, digital information will become available: maps, route descriptions, difficulty levels, points of interest, and cultural and historical backgrounds.

At the start of each route, signs with QR codes will provide access to that digital information. Markers along the trail will help hikers navigate safely.

"Bonaire has so much more to offer than just the well-known coastal and diving experiences. Our hiking trails offer a different way to discover the island, its nature, history and culture. Through this collaboration, we want to make these experiences easier to find and more accessible, while at the same time encouraging people to explore Bonaire in a responsible way," said Elesiër Angel, director of TCB.

What are the plans?

The partners will start by mapping new and existing hiking trails. These will then be digitised, better signposted and promoted. More trails and activities will follow at a later stage.
