THE BOTTOM, Saba — Residents aged 55 to 75 will soon have access to free colorectal cancer screening, as Saba prepares to launch a new program on September 28, 2026. The introduction marks an expansion of screening services on the island: for the first time, men will also be eligible to take part in a screening program.
Organised locally by Saba Cares, the program aims to identify colorectal cancer at an early stage, improving the chances of effective treatment. It will be open to both men and women within the target age group.
The rollout will take place gradually, with invitations reaching eligible residents over a two-year period. However, residents who want to participate will not have to wait for an invitation. From September 28, those aged 55 to 75 can contact the screening organisation on Saba directly to register their interest.
The launch also brings cooperation between healthcare providers on Saba and Bonaire. Saba Cares will work with Fundashon Mariadal hospital on Bonaire to ensure that follow-up examinations can be offered when a screening test produces an abnormal result.
Participation in the program is free of charge. Residents who receive an invitation can register using the information provided.
