Health Conference 2026 brings together the BES care sector and marks the launch of Unite in Care

KRALENDIJK – On Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 June, the Health Conference ‘Future of Care in Caribbean Netherlands: Stronger Together for Healthcare’ took place on Bonaire. The conference, organized by Zorg en Jeugd Caribisch Nederland (ZJCN), focused on three themes: healthcare infrastructure, the labor market, and prevention. A highlight of the event was the launch of Unite in Care, a new platform designed to connect employers, employees, and job seekers in the care and welfare sector of Caribbean Netherlands.
A large group of healthcare professionals, policymakers, and researchers gathered to explore the challenges facing healthcare in Caribbean Netherlands. Discussions covered collaboration between medical care providers and between the islands, and attention was given to the recommendations of the Commission on Care in Caribbean Netherlands.
John Soliano, Lieutenant Governor of Bonaire, welcomed participants to the conference. Minister Mirjam Sterk of Long-term Care, Youth and Sport sent a video message. Various experts shared their knowledge during inspiring presentations and workshops on topics such as leadership, education, data use in healthcare, and nutrition.
During the conference, several organizations signed cooperation agreements. Fundashon Mariadal and Scholengemeenschap Bonaire signed a covenant for a training program. Fundashon Mariadal, Mental Health Caribbean, Zorg en Welzijn Groep, Fundashon Kuido pa Personanan Desabilitá (Foundation for the Care of People with Disabilities), and Stichting Project signed a letter of intent to join forces in supporting services.
