KRALENDIJK – The pharmacy of Fundashon Mariadal is ready to put into service a new medication pickup machine that will allow customers to collect their prescriptions 24 hours a day.

On Tuesday morning, a demonstration was held for the local press, during which the operation of the machine was explained. Members of the press were also given a behind-the-scenes look at how the system is filled and managed.

For the time being, the machine has 150 compartments available for medication pickup.

The installation of the machine and its commissioning took longer than initially anticipated. “That is because various issues arise along the way that are beyond an organization’s control,” said communications officer Javiers Semeler in response to questions from Bonaire.nu.

The new pickup machine will be brought into use as of today. Customers who wish to use the service must register in advance. In particular, providing an email address is important, as customers will receive an email notification once their medication is ready for collection from the machine.

A total of 150 orders can be placed simultaneously in the new machine.

First of Its Kind

According to Fundashon Mariadal, the pharmacy has introduced a first for the ABC islands with this automated system. Bonaire is now the first—and for the time being the only— island to have access to such an advanced medication dispensing system.

It has not been ruled out that additional machines may be installed at other strategic locations across the island in the future. Whether and when this will happen has not yet been determined.
