PANAMA CITY, Panama – The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) is supporting a regional programme aimed at increasing women’s participation and leadership in the renewable energy sector.

Speaking at the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) 2026 in Panama, CDB Vice President Gillian Charles-Gollop emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for women to take on leadership roles in the region’s energy transition.

The Bank is providing financial support to the Women in Renewable Energy (WIRE) Fellowship Programme, implemented by the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).

This year’s programme brings together 13 women from 10 Caribbean countries, offering mentorship, leadership development, technical training and professional networking opportunities.

Charles-Gollop also called for continued cooperation between governments, development institutions and the private sector to ensure the programme’s long-term sustainability.
