KRALENDIJK – Water- en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) and Israel Desalination Engineering (IDE Technologies) have signed a new cooperation agreement for an initial period of five years. The agreement focuses on the expansion and renewal of facilities for drinking water production on Bonaire.
The signing took place on Monday, October 12, at WEB’s water production site in Hato. WEB and IDE have been working together on separate projects for some time, but the new agreement expands the cooperation to include the development, design and realization of future projects.
Demand for water continues to grow
According to WEB, demand for drinking water on Bonaire has risen by more than 10 percent per year in recent years. To keep up with this demand, the company has invested in expanding its production capacity.
According to WEB, the company brought a new installation into service in 2021, which was subsequently expanded to a capacity of 7,200 cubic meters per day. In 2024, capacity rose to 9,600 cubic meters per day.
WEB aims to further increase production capacity to 14,400 cubic meters per day over the next four years. This would be a doubling compared to the capacity of 7,200 cubic meters per day after the 2021 expansion of the installation.
For the expansion, WEB uses a modular system, allowing capacity to be scaled up step by step, depending on demand and the development of Bonaire.
