ORANJESTAD – During its meeting on August 21, 2025, the Island Council of St. Eustatius adopted a resolution that includes the dismissal of the board of the Gwendoline van Putten School (GvP School).

Following procedure under Article 222 of the WolBES Act, the Acting Kingdom Representative (wRV) has submitted the resolution to the Ministries of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). The wRV noted that the decision could be in conflict with the Secondary Education Act 2020.

In the lead-up to this resolution, the wRV held extensive consultations with both ministries regarding the situation at the school. On July 16, 2025, he sent a letter to the Ministry of OCW urging all parties involved to work toward a constructive solution.

Close contact

The Ministry of OCW has stated that it has long maintained close contact with the GvP School Board, providing support in carrying out its responsibilities and addressing ongoing challenges. The school also remains under the supervision of the Education Inspectorate.
