THE BOTTOM, Saba – Frustration and concern are mounting on Saba as the island’s only bank branch remains closed weeks after the passing of longtime RBC employee Andria Reed, leaving residents and businesses without access to in-person banking services and with no indication of when the branch will reopen.

In a statement, the Public Entity Saba acknowledged the significant impact the continued closure is having on the community, noting that many residents and businesses rely on the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) branch for essential banking services.

The island government said that while the operation of the branch and communication with customers remain the responsibility of RBC, it has been actively seeking updates from the bank and has raised the matter with the relevant supervisory and governmental authorities. However, based on the latest information available, no reopening date has been confirmed.

RBC finally posted an update on its social media channels on Friday, but the statement offered little concrete information about the situation and did not provide a timeline for reopening the Saba branch. The Public Entity has requested that the bank issue a more detailed update for the community, which it says will be shared through its official communication channels once available.

Digital services

In the meantime, customers requiring banking assistance are encouraged to use RBC’s digital banking services or contact the bank’s customer service for information on alternative banking options.

The prolonged closure has underscored Saba’s dependence on a single banking provider, with many residents expressing concern over the lack of access to face-to-face banking services on the island.
