KRALENDIJK - Flamingo Airport reached a historic milestone on Tuesday. For the first time, the airport received 500,000 passengers within a single calendar year. Dutch vacationer Liselot was given this honor when she landed on Bonaire with KLM.
The passenger was festively welcomed on the tarmac. The celebration continued in the terminal with staff and invited guests. On behalf of BIA and partners OLB, TCB and KLM, she received a special gift package. Earlier in the day, staff had already distributed cake to celebrate this special occasion.
Healthy growth through strong partnerships
"Reaching this milestone of half a million passengers is a wonderful achievement," says Giordano Molina, Operations Director of BIA. "It reflects the positive development of Flamingo Airport in recent years. Thanks to strong partnerships with airlines and partners within the tourism sector, and travelers’ confidence in Bonaire as a destination, we continue to achieve healthy growth."
Anniversary year ahead
The timing makes this moment extra special. In 2025/26, BIA will celebrate the anniversary year of 90 years of aviation on Bonaire and 80 years of Flamingo Airport. Earlier this year, the documentary ‘90 aña di Aviashon na Boneiru’ already premiered. Since the first KLM landing on Bonaire in 1936, the airport has grown into an indispensable link for the social and economic development of the island.
BIA looks confidently toward the future, with continued focus on quality, sustainable growth and the unique character of Flamingo Airport and the island.
