KRALENDIJK – Shortly after the departure of the KLM flight on Wednesday evening, the new runway lighting at Flamingo Airport was officially put into operation. Commissioner Anjelica Cicilia symbolically pressed the button to switch on the lights.

According to Maarten van der Scheer, director of Bonaire International Airport (BIA), the upgrade was urgently needed, and the project cost approximately 8 million dollars. Van der Scheer expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the realization of the work.

In a brief speech, Commissioner Cicilia emphasized the importance of the new lighting for flights to and from the island. “This was a necessary improvement, and we as shareholders are pleased with the result,” she stated.

In addition to the lighting, other areas of the airport have recently been addressed. New signage has been installed as well as housing for the electrical installations necessary for the operation of the runway lights.
