KRALENDIJK - Last week, two important steps were taken toward the execution of the construction works in the city center of Playa (the central area). This concerns the Kaya Grandi and surroundings project. As a first step, the contract with the contractor was signed.

Subsequently, on Friday August 14, an information evening was held for residents and business owners located in the project area. During the meeting, participants were informed about which works will be carried out, the general planning and phasing, and what this means for the neighborhood. This week, the construction works have begun.

The total expected duration of the project is seven months.

The works include, among other things, improvements to rainwater drainage and a better layout of the public space, giving the various functions in the city center the room they need. This will result in a cohesive and functional design of the city center.

During the information evening, residents and business owners had the opportunity to ask questions and share their concerns and points of attention. This input helps to align the execution as closely as possible with the day-to-day use of the area.

The deputy head of the Department of Spatial Planning and Development, Ligwino Leito, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: "With the signing of the agreement, we are taking an important step toward implementation. We know that construction works in the city center have an impact on residents, businesses, and visitors. That is why we find it important to communicate clearly, to listen carefully to the concerns of people in the area, and to stay in contact with the neighborhood during the works. In this way, we are working together toward a city center that is more attractive, more accessible, and better equipped for the future."

Accessibility during the works

During the construction period, all buildings will remain accessible on foot. Safe and clearly marked walking routes will be created for pedestrians. The project area will also remain accessible to emergency services at all times.

Where road closures or temporary detours are necessary, EPB will communicate this in advance.
