KRALENDIJK – The Public Entity of Bonaire will once again have the opportunity in 2026 to apply for a national contribution for road safety projects. The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management is opening an additional subsidy round, after part of the available budget from 2025 went unused.
During this additional application round, Bonaire can apply for a maximum of 500,000 euros for measures that improve road safety. The available budget will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. If multiple complete applications are submitted on the day the subsidy ceiling is reached, a draw will determine which projects are still eligible for funding.
The scheme focuses on traffic measures that can be implemented quickly and completed by the end of 2028 at the latest. For Bonaire, investments in public lighting, traffic-calming measures, safer pedestrian crossings and other infrastructural improvements that enhance road safety may be eligible for the subsidy.
With the additional subsidy round, the ministry aims to fully utilise the remaining road safety budget. Bonaire, together with Sint Eustatius and Saba, is among the public entities that can submit an application.
