ORANJESTAD — On Friday, June 26, 2026, Sint Eustatius will mark a significant moment in its history with the official unveiling of the Historical Trail in Quill National Park. The initiative, a collaboration between the Department of Culture and Events and nature conservation organisation STENAPA, brings Statia’s rich history literally to life along the hiking trail.
The festivities kick off at 9:00 AM at the Quill Trailhead, where participants will set off together towards the Historical Trail. Between 9:30 and 10:30 AM the official unveiling takes place, followed by an exploration of the trail. By 11:00 AM the group will return to the starting point.
Along the trail, interpretive panels share stories about the people, landscapes and events that have shaped the island. The project connects Statia’s natural environment with its cultural heritage, and lays the groundwork for future heritage walks, educational programmes and community events.
The trail is described as a milestone for the island, one that honours the past while building towards the future.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes, as the programme includes a short hike.
