KRALENDIJK – The reconstruction of Kaya Princes Marie, the road alongside the hospital that is currently closed, turns out to be more extensive than initially expected. In addition to the renewal of the carriageway, the parking spaces, pavement, street lighting, and a water pipe are also being addressed.
According to Martijn Zwiers of BWM Bonaire, the poor subsoil and rainfall caused additional work, meaning the project is taking more time than planned.
"We are replacing both the carriageway and parking spaces as well as the pavement. Due to the poor subsoil and rain it took a bit longer — more foundation had to be excavated. We also laid a water pipe for WEB at the same time and the streetlights are being replaced. All in all, quite an extensive reconstruction," said Zwiers.
Kaya Princes Marie, an important connection alongside the hospital, will remain closed to through traffic during the works.
