First woman to head the fire brigade in Caribbean Netherlands

KRALENDIJK – Thammy Albertsz will officially take office on 16 August as General Commander of the Fire Brigade Caribbean Netherlands. She is the first woman to hold this position. She succeeds Thijs Verheul, whose appointment ends on 15 August.

Albertsz (35), born on Bonaire, has been working for the Fire Brigade Caribbean Netherlands since 2018. Since 2022 she has served as Local Commander on Bonaire, where she is responsible for the day-to-day management of the fire brigade on the island.

A great honour

Albertsz stated that it is a great honour to be able to lead the organisation. According to her, cooperation, connection and safety are the most important priorities. From 16 August she will be responsible for leading the Fire Brigade Caribbean Netherlands on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.
