KRALENDIJK – This year’s Regatta Run appears to be heading for a new participation record. For the 42nd edition, to be held on Wednesday, October 14, 231 participants have already registered. That puts the number of registrations well above last year’s record.
The Regatta Run has grown strongly in recent years. In 2023, only 26 participants were at the start. A year later, that number rose sharply to 120 participants. In 2025, significant growth was recorded again, with 145 runners at the start.
With the current 231 registrations, interest in the 2026 edition is already almost 60 percent higher than last year. Registration has not closed yet, either. The organization shows via Race Roster that participants can sign up until October 13, so the final number could still rise further.
The growth is striking, because last year the organization had set a participant limit of 150 people. That limit was introduced after the sharp increase in 2024. At the time, registrations had to be closed early; according to the organization, more than 200 people might otherwise have signed up.
In sporting terms, too, fast times were run in recent editions. In 2024, Esteban Medina was the fastest man over 5 kilometers with a time of 18 minutes and 42 seconds. Josje Peters was the fastest woman in 20 minutes and 24 seconds.
Last year the pace went up even further. The fastest time over 5 kilometers was 15 minutes and 5 seconds. In the 2-kilometer children’s race, the fastest time was 9 minutes and 27 seconds.
The 42nd Regatta Run is organized by Comcabon, in cooperation with INDEBON. The 5 kilometers and the 2-kilometer children’s race start on October 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Stadion Playa. The finish is at Karel’s Beach Bar. This year the organization is using digital timing, and all participants who reach the finish will receive a medal.
