KRALENDIJK – A total of 45.9 tons of waste was collected during the first round of Bario Limpi 2026. From Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20, containers were placed in twelve neighborhoods across Bonaire where residents could drop off bulky waste and litter free of charge. The campaign ran through World Cleanup Day, the worldwide day on which people clean up their surroundings.

The Public Entity of Bonaire and Selibon NV are pleased with the result. With 45.9 tons of waste, residents have together made a significant contribution to cleaner neighborhoods and less illegal dumping.

“Every ton that ends up in a container is a ton that isn’t lying along the road or in nature,” says Sherman Blanken, head of Project and Taskforce at the Department of Supervision and Enforcement. “With Bario Limpi, we make it easier for our residents to do the right thing. At the same time, we will keep monitoring for illegal dumping, because anyone who leaves waste behind in nature harms our entire island.”

“A clean neighborhood doesn’t start with a container, but with everyone’s behavior,” says Clinton Kirindongo, manager of Customer Relations and Communications at Selibon NV. “We hope that our residents will continue to handle their waste responsibly after this weekend as well.”

The next round of Bario Limpi will take place in December. The exact dates will be announced later.
