KRALENDIJK – Sorobon will be entirely dedicated to youth, top sport and recreation from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 June during the international PWA Youth Event and the new local water sports festival Pow Wow di Awa. The four-day event brings together young athletes, top athletes, families and water sports enthusiasts around wind, water, movement and health.
The event is organised through a collaboration between Indebon, Aquatics Federation Bonaire (AFB), Bonaire Sailing School Association (BSSA), Watersport Bonaire, Windsurf & Wingfoil Association Bonaire (WAB), Bonaire Youth Watersport Development Foundation (BYWD Foundation) and various local partners.
According to the organisation, the goal of Pow Wow di Awa is to bring the water sports community of Bonaire closer together. Under the motto "One Tribe. One Bay. One Rhythm." Sorobon transforms for four days into a meeting place where sportsmanship, adventure, health and fun take centre stage.
More and more young people active on the water
Over the past year and a half, more and more young people from Bonaire have become active in water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and swimming. Thanks to the efforts of associations, coaches, volunteers and supporting organisations, more and more children are being introduced to active outdoor activities.
Indebon also supports initiatives that contribute to the active and healthy development of young people on Bonaire. According to the organisation, Pow Wow di Awa fits in well by bringing together sport, nature and recreation.
International youth talent heads to Bonaire
For the third consecutive year, the international PWA Youth Tour is making a stop at Bonaire. This year’s edition is organised by the BYWD Foundation. Young windsurfing talents from, among others, Curaçao, Venezuela, the United States, the Netherlands and other countries travel to Sorobon to compete.
The official kick-off takes place on Thursday 25 June from 5:30 to 6:30 PM with a Tow-In Freestyle Show at the Wilhelminaplein. During this demonstration, local freestyle surfers and international participants will showcase their best tricks.

Visitors can enjoy a wide programme throughout the event, including PWA Youth & Junior Slalom, Windsurf Freestyle, Shallow Water Slalom for young windsurfers, sailing races, an Open Water Swim in Lac Bay, a 1/8 Triathlon and various activities with food, drinks and music.
Treasure hunt for children
On Saturday, the spotlight is on youth aged 7 to 14 during the Quest for the Treasure of Lac Bay. Children team up on surfboards and sailing boats to search for clues and complete challenges that ultimately lead to a hidden treasure in the bay. Teamwork, creativity, sportsmanship and adventure are at the heart of this activity.
Open Water Swim
Swimming enthusiasts can also participate in the Open Water Swim organised by the Aquatics Federation Bonaire. Participants can choose distances of 500 or 1,000 metres in freestyle and/or breaststroke. Children aged 9 to 12 swim a standard 500 metres. From age 13, participants can choose between 500 and 1,000 metres.
Windsurf Akademia di Kiri continues to grow
Participants of the Windsurf Akademia di Kiri will also be present during the event. Since its founding in November 2025, dozens of children have joined the academy. More than 30 children now take lessons every week. According to the organisation, the academy plays an important role in developing young windsurfing talent on Bonaire.
Practical experience for students
Pow Wow di Awa also offers hands-on experience to students from MBO Sport & Exercise. They support the organisation and execution of various parts of the event. According to the organisation, the festival thereby also contributes to education, talent development and social engagement on Bonaire.
With events such as the Regatta, the PWA Youth Tour, the Bonsailing Regatta, the Open Bonaire Swimming Championships and Pow Wow di Awa, Bonaire is strengthening its position as an international water sports destination, according to the organisers.
