
PHILIPSBURG – The Caribbean Coast Guard is deploying extra personnel and equipment during the 46th edition of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, which begins today and runs through Sunday, March 8th on St. Maarten. The Coast Guard announced this in the lead-up to the annual sailing event.
According to the Coast Guard, the regatta is incorporated into operational planning each year, allowing for the deployment of additional personnel and supplementary training. Special equipment is also prepared to ensure safety on the water during the event.
During the races, the Coast Guard will patrol with Metal Shark vessels and the cutter Poema, among others. The units monitor the waters around St. Maarten to prevent incidents and respond quickly when necessary.
Safety
The Coast Guard collaborates with multiple services, including the St. Maarten police, Dutch marines, customs, and immigration services. Together, they conduct patrols in territorial waters to enhance safety during the event.
