KRALENDIJK - Sunday 4 May marks International Firefighters’ Day, a moment when fire brigades around the world recognise the daily work and personal risks of their personnel. On Bonaire and Saba, fire trucks will take to the streets. On St. Eustatius, an entire week of activities has been planned.
On Bonaire and Saba, several fire trucks will drive through the streets on Sunday 4 May between 11:00 and 12:00, with sirens and flashing lights. The route takes into account the Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place at that time.
St. Eustatius goes a step further: from 4 to 8 May 2026, the island will host a full ‘Firefighters Week’, with a range of activities spread across the entire week.
Running towards danger
Where most people instinctively move away from danger, firefighters do the opposite. BKCN uses this day to thank all firefighters across the islands for their dedication and their commitment to keeping communities safe.
