HE BOTTOM, Saba — Residents and visitors on Saba now have improved access to cash following the official opening of two new automated teller machines (ATMs) at Juancho E. Irausquin Airport and Fort Bay Harbor.
The ATMs were inaugurated on Monday as part of a collaboration between De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), the Public Entity Saba and Brink’s aimed at strengthening cash accessibility on the island. Governor Jonathan Johnson marked the occasion by making the first withdrawal during the opening ceremony, attended by representatives of the three partners.
The Public Entity also announced that two more ATMs are planned for The Bottom and Windwardside. Construction is currently underway and both locations are expected to become operational in the coming months.
At present, the new ATMs accept Visa cards only. The Public Entity and DNB said work is continuing to enable Mastercard transactions in the future.
Access to cash important
Commissioner Bruce Zagers said that although digital payments are becoming more common, dependable access to cash remains important for residents, businesses and visitors. He said the additional ATMs improve convenience and accessibility and thanked DNB and Brink’s for their cooperation in making the project possible.
