KRALENDIJK – During the Island Council meeting on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Dennis Martinus was officially sworn in as Island Council member on behalf of MPB. With his appointment, the Executive Council is complete once again.

Following the official swearing-in ceremony, held in the presence of his family and guests, Martinus expressed his gratitude and ambitions. The Island Council conveyed its appreciation and wished him every success in the period ahead.

Portfolio distribution

The distribution of portfolios within the new Executive Council will be determined at its next meeting and published immediately thereafter.

The appointment of Martinus temporarily restores stability to the coalition of UPB, MPB and the Serberie faction. That stability had been disrupted following the departure of former Island Council member Joselito Statia. Notably, in the secret vote held in the Island Council, three members voted against the appointment of Martinus, while six voted in favour.

Apology

During the Island Council meeting, council member Yona Chirino (UPB) offered her apologies. "I want to publicly apologise for the events of recent weeks. The people of Bonaire deserve better when it comes to the governance of their island."
