Arrest Made After Altercation, Knife Seizure at Carnival Village on Bacchanal Friday
ST. EUSTATIUS — Police were called to intervene in an altercation involving several people outside Carnival Village on Concordia Road during Bacchanal Friday, where officers confiscated a knife.
Later at the same location, a 48-year-old man, identified by the initials D.R.T.F., was arrested. He faces charges of failing to comply with a police order, attempted manslaughter, violating the Weapons Act, driving under the influence, and public drunkenness. Police also seized a vehicle connected to the incident.
Despite the disturbance, the rest of the night’s festivities proceeded without further trouble. The J’ouvert Morning Parade kicked off on schedule at 4:00 a.m. and wrapped up at 6:30 a.m., with no additional incidents reported.
Carnival weekend continues this afternoon with the First Day Parade, set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) is urging residents and visitors to follow safety guidelines as the festivities continue.
