Two arrested after scooter pursuits on St. Eustatius — brass knuckles also seized

ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius — Two men were arrested and two scooters confiscated following separate incidents on St. Eustatius on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18.

The first incident began when a scooter carrying two people, neither wearing a helmet, ignored a police stop signal. Officers pursued the scooter through several streets. The 19-year-old rider eventually reported to the police station, where he was reprimanded and the scooter was confiscated. The passenger, a 19-year-old man with the initials J.K.L., jumped off during the chase and was subsequently arrested after failing to present valid identification.

In a separate incident on Saturday afternoon, police spotted a scooter rider on Sandy Road without a helmet or licence plate. The 20-year-old rider, identified by the initials O.A.C.M., fled on his scooter and later struck the side mirror of a police vehicle near Mansion Road before losing control and crashing into bushes.

Rider arrested, brass knuckles found

The rider was arrested for failing to comply with the police stop signal. During the follow-up investigation, police found a pair of brass knuckles in his possession, which were confiscated along with his scooter. Officers also established that he did not hold a valid driving licence and issued fines for several traffic violations.
