KRALENDIJK - The board of STINAPA Bonaire has filed a police report following statements made on Tuesday evening, September 8, during a broadcast by ENERGIATV about Project Parke Bunita. According to STINAPA, serious accusations were made during the broadcast against the organization and against individual employees, who were named explicitly. The report concerns possible defamation and slander.
STINAPA emphasizes that criticism of the project is welcome, but that these statements go too far: they involve false and harmful accusations against individual employees. Reactions on social media following the broadcast make it clear that such statements can also affect the safety of employees. As an employer, STINAPA has a duty to guarantee a safe working environment.
About Project Parke Bunita
The project focuses on ecological restoration of Washington Slagbaai National Park, where free-roaming goats have been causing damage to the tropical vegetation for years and are indirectly harming the coral reef through erosion. STINAPA works zone by zone, uses multiple methods (live trapping, volunteers, cameras, GPS) and donates most of the animals to farms, religious organizations and foundations. Culling is only used as a last resort.
