THE BOTTOM - Saba takes centre stage on Dutch television this Tuesday, 28 July, in the documentary series Nature in the Caribbean. The episode airs on NPO 2 (BNN/VARA) at 9:20 PM (NL) / 3:20 PM (Carib), and is also available online via NPO Start.
In the series, journalist and presenter Natasja Gibbs travels to six Caribbean islands within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, showing how residents, conservation organisations and researchers are working together to restore and protect the islands’ fragile ecosystems. After exploring the ABC islands, the series now heads north to the Windward Islands, starting with Saba, known as "the Unspoiled Queen."
Although small, Saba has it all. At under 13 km², the island is home to rainforest, coral reef and the peak of the majestic Mount Scenery, including the rare elfin forest Gibbs visits in the episode. Beneath the waves, the Saba National Marine Park protects one of the richest dive sites in the Caribbean.
