KRALENDIJK – The Bonaire-based trade union AFBW has called on healthcare workers across Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba to join a demonstration in support of a 36-hour workweek, without any reduction in salary or pension benefits.
According to AFBW, there is an unjust inequality at play: civil servants already enjoy a 36-hour workweek, while healthcare workers are still required to work 40 hours. The union argues it is time for this group to receive the same recognition and employment conditions.
The demonstration will take place on August 15 at 4:00 PM, departing from the AFBW union building in Kralendijk. Participants are asked to wear white clothing or a white shirt as a symbol of unity.
In addition to healthcare workers, AFBW is welcoming family members, friends and other supporters to join the march. The union says the action is aimed at achieving better and equal working conditions for healthcare staff across all three BES islands.
