THE BOTTOM, Saba — Saba Cares has appointed Dutch healthcare executive Ernst van Drumpt as its new Managing Director. According to Dutch regional newspaper De Gelderlander, Van Drumpt will assume the position on August 1 under a two-year contract.
Van Drumpt, 72, has spent decades in the healthcare sector, beginning his career as a nurse before moving into executive leadership. He previously served as chief executive of Dutch healthcare organization Elver and has held numerous supervisory board positions in healthcare and social organizations in the Netherlands.
His international experience also includes volunteer healthcare work in Suriname over many years. In addition, he was involved in several healthcare projects on neighbouring St. Eustatius between 2018 and 2020, giving him prior experience in the Caribbean Netherlands.
At Saba Cares, the island’s sole healthcare provider, Van Drumpt will be responsible for the overall management of the organization, including oversight of the planned redevelopment of the island’s clinic and care facilities. The healthcare provider operates on a small scale, serving Saba’s population of just over 2,000 residents.
Remote start
According to regional Dutch newspaper De Gelderlander, Van Drumpt will initially work remotely from the Netherlands before relocating to Saba later this year. His appointment marks a return to active executive management after several years in retirement.
