KRALENDIJK – The Directorate of Supervision and Enforcement (DTH) has launched enforcement actions against the illegal use of public land on Bonaire. Last week, advertising signs were removed in Belnem and Sabadeco, and rocks were cleared from government-owned land near Playa Lechi.

The work at Playa Lechi was carried out in collaboration with STINAPA. DTH emphasizes that it is prohibited to place items on public land without permission or a permit.

Prior warning given

The actions are part of a longer enforcement process. During the second and third quarters of 2025, DTH already distributed information letters to residents and business owners in the area from Sabadeco to Punt Vierkant. These were followed by inspections and formal warning letters, giving those involved the opportunity to resolve the situation themselves first.

What is not permitted

DTH regularly observes people occupying public land without a permit. Examples include placing rocks, planters, trees, or posts on the pavement, and blocking off land with chains without authorization. This can cause nuisance, obstruct public space, and create dangerous situations for road safety.

DTH urges residents and business owners to remove any items placed on public land without a permit of their own accord. Those who fail to do so risk having DTH remove the items during inspections.

A precario permit can be requested through the official website of the Government of Bonaire.
