KRALENDIJK – Biblioteka Públiko Boneiru is in the running to be named Best Library in the Netherlands 2026. The library is the only nominee from the Caribbean Netherlands. Starting today, 1 October, the public can cast their votes.
The voting period runs until 31 October inclusive. Votes can be cast via Bibliotheekblad. The winner will be announced on 5 November.
Besides Biblioteka Públiko Boneiru, four libraries from the European Netherlands have been nominated: Bibliotheek Hellevoetsluis, Bibliotheek Horst aan de Maas, Bibliotheek Nijkerk and Bibliotheek Warenhuis Oss. A professional jury assessed the libraries on criteria including social engagement, activities, collaboration, collection and services.
Strong growth
The nomination comes at a time when Biblioteka Públiko Boneiru is experiencing strong growth. Since the opening of its current location on Kaya Amsterdam in March 2025, membership has risen from less than 4 percent to more than 15 percent of the population.
Through August of this year, the library had already welcomed more than 120,000 visitors.
Director Jennifer Pocornie Martis calls the nomination a recognition for the team, the volunteers and the community. “That we are the only library from the Caribbean Netherlands competing for this national title is something all of Bonaire can be proud of,” she says.
You can vote until 31 October at www.bibliotheekblad.nl/stem.
