KRALENDIJK – On the initiative of EQ Bonaire, a delegation of ten representatives from six Caribbean islands will travel to Amsterdam on July 30 to participate in WorldPride 2026. The overarching theme of the delegation is Unity: stronger together through connection, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to equal rights.

The programme includes the Canal Pride on August 2 and the Human Rights Conference on August 5, 6 and 7. In addition, the delegation will make working visits to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), the National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism (NCDR) and COC Netherlands. A special highlight is a session with psychiatrist and therapist Glenn Helberg, who will address the influence of colonialism on identity, inclusion and the position of the queer community within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

The trip offers participants not only the opportunity to gain knowledge and experiences, but also to share their own stories. In the various meetings, they will speak about the challenges that LGBTQIA+ communities on the islands still face, and about the steps taken in recent years in the areas of visibility, acceptance and human rights.

With their joint participation, the six islands give substance to the theme of Unity. By exchanging experiences, strengthening one another and moving forward together, they are building a future in which everyone can be themselves and has equal opportunities, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or background.
