KRALENDIJK – The international archaeological research project IslandLives is organising a public launch evening on Tuesday, June 23 at the Bonaire Public Library. The event runs from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and is free to attend.
Visitors will be introduced to the research team and learn more about the project’s objectives, the ongoing excavations on Klein Bonaire, and the activities planned on the island in the coming years. There will also be an opportunity to put questions to the researchers.
Daily Life at the Centre
IslandLives is funded by the European Research Council and focuses on the history of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire. The project examines the daily lives of the inhabitants of the ABC islands. The emphasis is not on the traditional plantation history, but on the role of informal maritime trade and the ways in which island communities shaped their own social development.
The first research phase consists of archaeological excavations on Klein Bonaire, which will be carried out in June and July.
Registration for the event is available through the IslandLives website.
