THE BOTTOM, Saba – Saba Electric Company (SEC) has started clearing the site for the third phase of its renewable energy project. Work began Thursday at the project location in Giles Quarter.
The new phase is intended to further increase the share of renewable energy in Saba’s electricity supply. According to SEC, reducing the island’s dependence on imported fuel should make electricity generation less vulnerable to fluctuations in international fuel prices and geopolitical developments.
SEC says the project will also contribute to the affordability, reliability and sustainability of electricity production, while creating opportunities to introduce newer technology and greater flexibility into the island’s power grid.
The company has not yet released technical details about the third phase, including its generating capacity or the technology to be installed. SEC said more information about the project will be made public in the near future.
