ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – Gwendoline van Putten School (GvP) has received its first Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) certificates for students participating in the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) programme.

The certificates were awarded in Food Preparation and Cookery Level 2, General Construction Level 2 and Welding Level 2. They formally recognize the practical skills and competencies students acquired through classroom instruction, hands-on training, assessments and workplace-related experience.

According to the school, the first certificates mark an important step in rebuilding and strengthening its vocational education programme. CVQ Coordinator Rijziena Hooker said the achievement also reflects progress in improving the assessment, verification and student-support systems needed for the programme.

GvP said additional certificates are expected toward the end of August. Parents and guardians of students still awaiting certification will be contacted once these have been received.

The school says the recognized qualifications can help students pursue further education or training and prepare them for entering the workforce.
