KRALENDIJK – More than 600 students of the Scholengemeenschap Bonaire (SGB) participated on Friday, 21 August in an awareness campaign about manipulation and criminal exploitation.

The campaign, named Uit de Greep 1.0, aimed to make young people more aware of the ways in which others can exploit their wishes, needs or vulnerabilities in order to involve them in criminal activities or to exploit them.

Afterwards, two experts with lived experience and representatives of the organisations involved spoke with students on the school grounds. Topics included how young people can recognise potentially unsafe situations and where they can turn when they have concerns.

Uit de Greep 1.0 is part of the annual programme on Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling. In addition to SGB, the campaign was supported by the Ministry of Justice and Security, RIEC Caribbean Netherlands, the IND, JICN and the Caribbean Netherlands Police Corps (KPCN).

Anyone in need of help can contact the Victim Support Bureau at 717 6181. Anonymous reports to the police can be made via 9310. In case of immediate danger, redidents can call 911.
