KRALENDIJK – The Dutch reed quintet Calefax will perform a special concert on Friday, July 3 at the Coromotokerk on Bonaire, together with singer Juliana Martina and presenter and author Milouska Meulens. Under the title Atardi in de Diaspora, the artists bring a combination of music and stories, performed in Dutch and Papiamentu.

Calefax consists of five reed instruments: oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone and bassoon. The unique combination of these instruments produces a distinctive sound with which the ensemble plays a wide repertoire, ranging from classical music by Bach and Debussy to works by Duke Ellington and Nina Simone.

During the concert, the musical performances will be alternated with stories that are easy to follow for both Dutch- and Papiamentu-speaking audiences. Students from Casa d’Musica will also contribute to the programme that evening.

The concert starts at 7:30 PM at the Coromotokerk on Kaya Korona.

In addition to the evening concert, Calefax will also give several smaller performances on Bonaire. One of these takes place on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Kas di Kuido.

Tickets

Tickets for the concert cost $20 and are available at Delmar Bookstore and Lisa Convenience Store. A reduced rate of $10 applies for children. If still available, tickets can also be purchased at the door.
