Bonaire government explores possible compensation for residents following electricity tariff increase

KRALENDIJK – The Public Entity Bonaire (PEB) announced in a press release that it is exploring options to ease the consequences of the higher electricity tariffs recently announced by the Water and Energy Company Bonaire (WEB).
According to the PEB, the increase in the variable electricity tariff may result in additional financial pressure on both households and businesses, on top of the already high cost of living. The authorities are therefore looking for appropriate measures to limit the negative effects of the tariff increase. Residents will be informed once there is more clarity on this matter.
In the meantime, the executive council is calling on residents to use electricity and water mindfully. This can be done, for example, by keeping the air conditioning on as little as possible, turning off appliances when not in use, and trying to limit the use of hot water.
The PEB states that it is still in consultation with WEB and other parties involved on how to proceed with the situation.
