KRALENDIJK – Sixty students from Liseo Boneriano recently visited Kunuku Copacabana, where they learned about self-sufficiency and climate change.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed with a typical Bonairian snack and drink. The Klimaattafel Bonaire project group provided an introduction to the effects of climate change, both globally and specifically on Bonaire. Students were encouraged to discuss these issues with their families and friends.
During a guided tour, the visitors were introduced to sustainable farming practices. The focus was on compost production, goat milk processing, vegetable cultivation, and sorghum production. The farm utilizes solar energy and rainwater collection, contributing to efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural methods.
Example
The visit gave students insight into innovative ways to produce local food while minimizing environmental impact. Boerderij Copacabana serves as an example of how Bonaire can develop a more self-sufficient future, with respect for nature and climate.
