KRALENDIJK – The EEG Boulevard on Bonaire was completely gridlocked around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Many people had come to the Donkey Beach area to watch up close as the cargo plane carrying a replacement engine for a KLM aircraft came in to land.

The cargo plane arrived on Bonaire on Friday afternoon with the engine needed for the KLM aircraft that has been grounded on the island since 21 September. The aircraft was delayed at the time due to a technical problem with one of its engines.

The arrival of the cargo plane drew a lot of attention. Many people lined the EEG Boulevard waiting to see it land. After the cargo plane had landed, the replacement engine was transported to the KLM aircraft on the apron.

Repair work

Not long afterwards, technicians began replacing the engine. This is necessary to get the aircraft back into service.

It is not yet known exactly when the work will be completed and the KLM aircraft will be able to leave Bonaire. That depends, among other things, on how the work on the aircraft progresses.

The KLM aircraft has now been on Bonaire since 21 September. The passengers of the original flight to Amsterdam have since been transported on other flights.
