ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – The St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation (STDF) is increasing its efforts to attract Canadian visitors, with recent appearances at two tourism events aimed at both travel professionals and consumers.

Statia participated on October 1 in the One Caribbean Canada + USA Virtual Trade Show, which brought together more than 1,000 travel advisers and representatives of Caribbean destinations, hotels and airlines. Communications specialist Erieenne Brandao presented Statia during the event, assisted by Christina Hook.

The participation followed the island’s presence at the 55+ Lifestyle Show in Ottawa, where representatives met with mature Canadian travellers interested in smaller-scale Caribbean destinations.

Tourism director Maya Pandt said Canada is considered a promising growth market for Statia. According to Pandt, Canadian travellers are increasingly interested in experiences beyond traditional resort holidays, including history, nature and local culture.

STDF is promoting the island in Canada primarily for its diving, hiking opportunities around the Quill, natural environment and historical heritage. The tourism foundation says it plans to continue working with North American travel advisers and providing them with information and destination training.
