RINCON - More than 750 runners and walkers participated on Sunday, August 23, in the second edition of the Washington Park Trail Run. The event attracted nearly twice as many participants as the first edition in 2025.

According to the director of Indebon, more than 750 participants lined up on Sunday. He said after the event: "Success, over 750 participants today." Participants could choose between a 10 or 24 kilometre route, with the 10-kilometre route by far drawing the largest group.

A special route

The Trail Run takes participants through Washington Slagbaai National Park. Running and hiking are popular activities on Bonaire, but this event is special because participants only get the opportunity once a year to traverse the park in this way. The routes wind through rugged terrain with hills, rocky landscape, and stunning views.

Doubling in numbers

The first edition was held on June 22, 2025, and attracted 380 participants. The organisation had expected around 200 to 300 participants at the time and was already surprised by the turnout.

Participants from beyond Bonaire

The Washington Park Trail Run does not only attract residents of Bonaire. Participants from outside the island travel specially to Bonaire to run the unique route through the national park. The rapid growth in interest is clear from this year’s turnout: in just one year, the number of participants has nearly doubled.
