THE BOTTOM, Saba — Saba Cares marked a ceremonial milestone in the development of its future care campus during a visit by Minister of Long-term Care, Youth and Sport Mirjam Sterk.

The moment focused on Building A, which has been in use since September 2025 as the organisation’s administrative base. The broader project is being developed in phases, with Building B nearing completion and a new nursing home (Building C) planned for delivery by 2027 or 2028.

Once completed, the campus will provide 24-hour care for 24 residents, alongside assisted-living apartments and supporting facilities such as a restaurant and activity spaces.

“Every resident deserves access to safe, high-quality care close to home. This new facility reflects our shared commitment to providing dignified care for the elderly,” said Sterk.

Nadya van Putten, Supervisory Board Chairperson of Saba Cares Foundation, said the milestone highlights the joint effort behind the project. “It reflects the dedication and close collaboration of all partners and our long-term commitment to ensuring that people on Saba can receive care in an environment that feels like home.”

Joint effort

The development is a joint effort between Saba Cares, the Public Entity Saba and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, aimed at strengthening long-term care capacity on the island. The expansion is, among others, financed by RBC bank and Pensionfund Caribbean Netherlands (PCN).
