ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius — Reuel Schmidt, Statia’s new junior commissioner of tourism, will represent the island at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Regional Tourism Youth Congress in Georgetown, Guyana, on Thursday, October 8.
The congress is part of the State of the Tourism Industry Conference, taking place from October 5 to 9. Schmidt succeeds Shatasia Parris, who held the junior commissioner role in 2025/26.
His presentation will propose three strategies for attracting multi-generational families to Statia through activities involving the island’s heritage, culture and educational experiences.
Schmidt is accompanied by Ilyssa Balgobin of A+ Academic & Professional Training Centre, which handled his selection and logistical arrangements. Erieenne Brandao, communication specialist at the St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation, is also attending the conference.
The programme includes a youth leadership forum, training workshops and networking activities.
