KRALENDIJK — Historic buildings on Bonaire served as practical examples during a two-day workshop aimed at developing a shared Caribbean standard for describing monuments and assessing their heritage value.

Organized on Bonaire by the Dutch Caribbean Heritage Platform (DCHP), the workshop brought together experts from the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands.

On the final day, participants tested the proposed framework using the Fraterhuis as a case study. Boi Antoin of FuHiKuBo provided historical context about the Fraterhuis and the former Sint Dominicus school, helping participants connect the assessment method to the buildings’ history and significance.

According to a report shared by Stichting Cocari II, the exercise allowed participants to identify strengths and areas for improvement in the framework. Their findings will contribute to the further development of the Caribbean standard.
