KRALENDIJK - Interviewers from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) will be visiting randomly selected households on Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba from September through December as part of the Labour Force Survey (LFS). The survey allows the CBS to map developments in the labour market in the Caribbean Netherlands. On Bonaire, 1,233 households will be approached.
The LFS is a sample survey among households that the CBS carries out every two years. On St Eustatius, the CBS is asking 578 households to participate, and on Saba, 571. The CBS requests the cooperation of all households in the sample in order to obtain the most complete picture of the labour market possible.
Unemployment and Education
One of the most important outcomes of the survey is the unemployment rate. This figure shows what proportion of the working population is looking for work. In addition, the CBS measures labour participation — that is, how many people are active in the labour market. The CBS also collects data on matters including educational level, occupation and the number of hours people work.
Data Remains Confidential
The CBS is legally required to treat all collected data with strict confidentiality and has put measures in place to protect that data. According to the CBS, no identifiable data is ever shared with third parties, including other government bodies.
All interviewers carry official CBS identification. Residents may ask the interviewer to show their credentials to confirm that they are dealing with a CBS employee.
