THE BOTTOM - The public drinking water supply on Saba was temporarily shut down on Tuesday evening, August 11. The measure is necessary to replenish the island’s water reserves and to maintain the production of drinking water at Saba Splash.
The interruption is expected to last 48 hours. According to the Public Entity Saba, a reliable and sufficient drinking water supply is of great importance to the island. The measure is also in accordance with the BES Electricity and Drinking Water Act.
Saba has been experiencing dry conditions for some time, putting increasing pressure on the available water reserves. The Public Entity is therefore urgently calling on residents and businesses to use the water they still have available as sparingly as possible.
Residents are asked, among other things, to take shorter showers, not to leave taps running unnecessarily, and to only use washing machines and dishwashers when they are full. It is also important to repair leaking taps, toilets, pipes and water reservoirs as quickly as possible.
In addition, residents are asked to limit washing cars, patios and other outdoor areas as much as possible. Where possible, used water can be reused, for example for watering plants or cleaning outdoor spaces.
The Public Entity Saba acknowledges that the temporary shutdown comes at a difficult time. Many households already have low water reserves. Nevertheless, the Public Entity considers the measure necessary to protect the island’s drinking water supply for as long as the drought persists.
Residents will be informed as soon as the public water supply can be resumed.
