WILLEMSTAD/WASHINGTON – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas of Curaçao held talks in Washington this week with senior officials from the United States Department of State. The discussions focused on the situation in Venezuela, economic cooperation and justice.

Pisas met with, among others, Barbara Feinstein, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, and Michael Kozak, responsible for coordinating policy in the region. According to the government, the talks addressed regional developments and opportunities to deepen cooperation between Curaçao and the United States.

A key topic was the situation in Venezuela and its consequences for the region. As a neighbouring country, Curaçao is directly affected by migration and the economic and security challenges linked to developments in the South American nation.

Economic cooperation was also on the agenda, with an emphasis on attracting investment and strengthening trade relations. Discussions additionally covered cooperation in the field of justice, including transparency, security and good governance.
